Cable Wine Systems (www.CableWineSystems.com), creators of the most versatile and sophisticated wine racking system on the market, is weighing in on the state of the wine industry in Atlantic Canada.
The judging for the seventh annual Atlantic Canadian Wine Awards wrapped up in early October and the consensus seems to be that Atlantic Canada is a wine region on the rise. This surge is being lead first by a culinary movement in the region, but similar to trends around the world, it’s the younger generation which is being seen taking the popularity of wine to a different level. “The first places most people think of when someone mentions Canadian wine is the Niagara region or the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia, and rightfully so—they’ve earned that label for producing some of the top wines in the world,” says Steve Papadimitriou, Owner of Cable Wine Systems. “But some of the attention is slowly shifting over to growers in the Atlantic regions, and events like the Atlantic Canadian Wine Awards are showing that there’s something positive happening out there.”
The goal of the Atlantic Canadian Wine Awards is to promote local growers, showcase the wine coming from the region, and raise the overall awareness of the progress of wine throughout the Atlantic region. This year’s event saw submissions for both reds and whites, dessert wines, fruit wines, and even varieties of sparkling wine, with reports indicating that whites and sparkling were the standouts, as reds are still a bit more difficult due to the region’s geography.
“It’s always a good thing to see a region step up in any facet, but to see Atlantic Canada take command of its wine culture is encouraging,” concluded Papadimitriou. “And as Cable Wine Systems helps facilitate homeowners’ love for wine with wine rack systems, our goal is to continue supporting the cultural appreciation for wine drinking that’s been happening in Atlantic Canada and all over North America.”
